4 Areas of Focus in Your Custom Home

Building your dream home comes with a large bag of mixed emotions - Excitement, overwhelm, the stress of deadlines, the relief of progress and everything in between.  We strive to make the home building process smooth, transparent, innovative and a true team effort.  And in the end clients always agree that it is a worthy investment to own a high quality, custom home.

So where do you start? Which rooms should be the focus?  While we leave no room neglected in our design-build process, we’re giving you 4 Areas of Focus in Your Custom Home that are great starting points for your considering.

1.  A Well-Equipped Kitchen

Open concept plans have made way for combining, expanding, and reconfiguring typical gathering areas in the home.  Kitchens are now open to formal and informal dining areas and overlook large living and family areas.  With this concept rising in popularity, we begin to see the importance of a well-designed, large kitchen (regardless of one’s love of cooking).  The kitchen is the hub, the Grand Central Station of the home.  It needs to be practical and convenient for everyday use with an emphasis on the well-equipped luxuries of a custom kitchen.  The right combination allows even the most novice cook to enjoy the convenient luxury of a pot filler over their stovetop or a set of custom double islands for storage and gathering.

2.  Let Your Home Work for You

While a home office is nothing novel, 2020 has proven the importance of having a designated room for work in lieu of a makeshift corner workspace.  Keep the space inviting but not overly stimulating.  You want to be able to focus on your work tasks, not be constantly distracted by bright colors, objects or high traffic areas of the home/outside. Be sure this room gets ample, mood-boosting natural light.  You can easily organize your paperwork and other materials using custom built-ins or a custom closet system.  All of these will greatly improve your productivity as your home works for you and the needs of your lifestyle!

3. A Master Retreat

With our recent shift to slowing down and staying home, it’s now more important than ever to ensure you have a dedicated space to retreat, unwind and truly relax your mind and body.  Enter the Master Suite.  Uncluttered with ample space to move about, you want your master suite to be somewhat hidden from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the home.  No master suite is complete without an ample-sized custom walk-in closet.  Incorporating proper, quality storage options makes those rushed mornings efficient and organized.  And after that busy work day, imagine decompressing in a freestanding soaking tub or under a luxurious waterfall shower.  A custom built master suite should feel like a staycation!

4. Take it Outside

Outdoor living spaces have grown exponentially from the screened in porch & back deck with a set of chairs and a table.  Clients are opting for open space mirroring those all-important interior kitchen/living/dining areas.  Here in North Carolina, we have the luxury of experiencing all 4 seasons.  Extending your living space beyond the four walls is a must.  And because our winters tend to be relatively mild, enjoying outdoor living all year round is absolutely feasible!  For those summer months, an outdoor grilling space complete with prep and storage is a must have.  A designated entertainment area with ample seating, a large television and a solid sound system allow you and your friends to catch Fall Football, the US Open or Spring Baseball games while enjoying the pleasant NC temps.  Looking for the perfect winter nightcap?  Curl up on a brisk evening with a cozy blanket and a warm cup of your favorite drink in front of an outdoor fireplace.
