We’ve always loved the homebuilding process—from the first blueprint to the final detail. Watching an idea transform into a structure that becomes a family’s sanctuary has been our greatest motivation.
2. Can you highlight a few top communities you’ve built in over the years?
We’ve had the privilege of working in some remarkable locations, including the Governors Club in Chapel Hill and Forest Creek in Pinehurst. Both are golf course communities known for their elegance, charm, and gated security.
3. What has been your favorite thing about working in the homebuilding industry?
No two projects are the same! Each home brings a new opportunity to learn, innovate, and create something truly special. We also love the satisfaction of seeing vertical structures take shape.
4. What do you love most about Sanford, and why did you establish your business here?
Sanford is home. Being born and raised here gave us strong connections to family, local businesses, banks, and realtors. It made sense to establish T.L. Stewart Builders in a community we know and love.

5. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a homeowner and a builder?
Proper site work is crucial. The placement of the home on the land sets the foundation—literally and figuratively—for a successful project. Start right to finish right.
6. What sets your approach to homebuilding apart from others?
We focus on making the process easy for our clients. From start to finish, we prioritize clear communication and seamless execution.
7. How has the homebuilding industry changed since you started, and how have you adapted?
The range and quality of products have greatly improved. For instance, modern windows are much more efficient and versatile. We’ve embraced these advancements to offer the best solutions for our clients.
8. Can you share a memorable or unique project that holds a special place in your heart?
One standout is the modern contemporary home we recently built at 109 Chester Way in Pinehurst. This project won the Moore County Home Builder’s Best in Show award—a milestone we’re incredibly proud of!
9. What’s one piece of advice you’d offer to those building their dream home?
Start with a solid plan. Study your blueprint thoroughly, considering furniture placement and the site plan in relation to your land.
10. What’s been the key to your business’s longevity and success over the past 40 years?
Treat others how you want to be treated and always go above and beyond expectations.
11. How do you incorporate sustainability and innovation into your home designs?
By working with top-tier products, skilled tradespeople, and effective project management, we ensure that every home is built with durability and sustainability in mind.

Our team is exceptional. Many have dedicated their entire careers to the building industry, and their expertise ensures that we consistently deliver outstanding results.
15. Is there a specific project or milestone you’re most proud of?
We’re proud of developing quality communities like Hawkins Run and Charleston Place in Sanford, as well as Hampton Ponds, our first 55+ community. Currently, Carbonton Cove and Rosemont are available for viewing.
